Unfortunately, the statue has been defaced again. Someone has spray painted the faces black. We are looking in to how to best restore the paint, but any donations will be greatly appreciated!
The "Late for the Interurban" statue in Fremont is an amazing tribute to our heroes by sculptor Kevin Pettelle. More than just bronze, the statue features painted details that really bring the statue to life! Unfortunately, weather, time and, occasionally, graffiti, take their toll on these details requiring regular maintenance and occasional repainting. The regular maintenance (cleaning, waxing and polishing) will be completed by annually, but the larger restoration (stripping old paint, prepping, and painting) required is a more involved project.
A portion of the proceeds from the Patches Patio Pavers is set aside for statue maintenance as well as for donations to Seattle Children's, however, paver reservations have been down the last few years. Additionally, we had to remove the donation box at the statue because it was repeatedly being broken into. So, that leaves us in the unfortunate position to have to ask for help cover the costs of the necessary restoration.
NOTE: To donate amounts other than what is listed above, simply add additional quantities to total the amount that you wish to give.
